FHA loan requirement: Must occupy home – How long?

Written By: admin on November 16, 2009 One Comment

I meet all qualifications for FHA loan re-finance except I do not live at the property, I currently rent it out. I plot on possibly moving back in, but I need to know if there is a time constraint on how long I have to have lived there to qualify for FHA refinance, if any? Also, once I refinance it, am I required to continue living there for any certain period of time? Thank you for your help.

As of right now, you can do an FHA streamline refinance even though it’s a rental property.
There are only a few lenders left that will do this and there will be a slight difference in the rate( 5% instead of 4.75% on a 30 year fixed FHA).
You do need to rush though because an FHA case number issued after November 17, 2009 will fall under the new more restrictive guidelines for FHA streamline loans.
